JumpCut

Finds every pause in a recording and takes it out.

JumpCut profiles a recording's loudness, marks the stretches that are silence, and removes them — keeping a breath either side of each cut so the result does not sound clipped. It reports how much time it saved, and every step runs on the device.

Most of the editing on a talking-head recording is deleting the parts where nobody is talking. It is mechanical work, and it is the reason a ten-minute take costs an hour.

Detection

JumpCut builds an RMS loudness profile of the audio and marks the runs that fall below the threshold for long enough to count. A fixed decibel cut-off does not survive a change of microphone or room, so the sensitivity is exposed and the detected regions are shown before anything is removed.

Cuts that do not sound like cuts

Removing silence exactly is what makes edited audio sound wrong: consonants get clipped and the speaker sounds breathless. Each cut keeps a margin either side, which is the difference between an edit you notice and one you do not.

Capabilities

Loudness-profile detection

Silence is found from an RMS profile of the whole recording rather than a single fixed threshold.

Padded cuts

A configurable margin is kept either side of every cut so speech does not start or stop abruptly.

Review before export

The kept segments and the time saved are shown before anything is written.

Lifetime unlock

One purchase lifts the length limit and removes the ads, permanently.

Screens

What it looks like in use.

Select any screen to view it full size. Use the arrow keys to move between screens and Escape to close.

  • Import a recording from the library.
  • Detected silence regions with an adjustable sensitivity.
  • The kept segments and the time removed, before export.
